He was born the youngest of 5 children to Charles Lewis and Nancy Jane (Oram) Cole on December 23, 1920 in Harrison County, MO.
He graduated from Bethany High School in 1937. On January 30, 1943 he married Romayne Wiley in St. Joseph, MO. To this marriage, 2 daughters were born: Tyra Thorne and Wylene Dunlap.
Clinton was drafted in 1944 and had seen action in the South Pacific and returned home to the farm in 1946. Learning new things and being an avid reader took him in many directions. He purchased an airplane and took flying lessons. Raising Angus cattle and crop farming took up most of his and Romayne’s time. Years later, Clinton became interested in motorcycles. So much so, after purchasing one for himself, he thought Romayne would be interested in riding, but that did not fly. He became the owner of two motorcycles. Grandpa Cole was always up for tractor rides and motorcycle rides for the grandchildren.
Community involvement was high on Clinton’s list: American Legion, Lifetime member of the VFW, Lions Club; and Community Action Agency Board.
Clinton was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wilbur Cole; sister, Wuanita McClure; one infant sister and one infant brother.
He is survived by his wife, Romayne, of the home; daughters, Tyra Thorne (Glenn) Trenton, MO, Wylene Dunlap (Ken) St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Becky, Beth, Jeni, Steve, Curt, Kendra, Cole; and great grandchildren, Lauryn, Brice, Ben, Brady, Emma, Sam, Natalie, Heidi, Derek, Brandi, Ashely, Haley, and Faye.
Funeral Services with Military Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 16 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice in care of Roberson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 46, Bethany, MO 64424.
