




Bethany, MO: On Friday, April 11, 2025, next year’s SHHS students will “go to the polls” to elect the 2025-26 Student Council officers. Campaigning begins Monday, April 7. Candidate “speeches” are below.
President
Josie Taylor, junior
Introduce yourself, the office you’re running for, and explain why you would like to be a student council officer.
Hi. I’m Josephine Taylor and I’m running for Student Council President. I would like to become a student council officer to help more with my leadership skills.
Discuss the experience, skills, and traits you possess that would help you be a good officer.
I have a great deal of experience as I have been an officer for two years now. My skills are being organized and responsible. My traits consist of being ahead all the time and not giving up.
Discuss at least one specific goal you have for student council next year.
One goal I have this year is to better our school and make it a more comfortable environment, such as adding flowers and plants all around the school to make it more cheerful. I’d like to add some different seating in the commons area as well.

Jacob Cookson, junior

My name is Jacob Cookson and I am running for student council vice president. I would like to be vice president in order to be a leader and have the opportunity to work with others.

I have experience leading others in science club and robots and working with others. Some traits that I possess are that I am coolheaded, hardworking, and problem solving.

One of my goals for student council next year is to help enhance school spirit through fun and competitive event to get more students involved.

My name is Max pottorff, and I am running for student council secretary. I would like to be a student council officer to practice leadership and participate in government-related activities.

I was the student council secretary for the 2024-2025 year, so I am very aware of the responsibilities and requirements that are asked of me. I possess a sense of patience that is often used in the act of leadership.

One specific goal I have for the student council next year is to create a more inclusive student council group where all people are actively participating in discussions relating to the organization’s activities.
Treasurer
Keeleigh Gilpatrick, junior

Hello, I’m Keeleigh Gilpatrick. I play softball and I run track. I am also involved in many organizations in the school. I am running for treasurer. I want to be a student council officer because I want to be more involved with the school.
Discuss the experience, skills, and traits you possess that would help you be a good officer.
Some experiences and traits that I possess that would help me be a good officer are that I was a leader in softball, being the oldest on the team. We were the oldest and became the leaders to make a good example for the freshman. I have also been a section leader in band where I taught the upcoming 8th graders how to march and play during marching band.

One goal that I have for the student council next year is to bring more school spirit towards homecoming and try to get more people involved.

Hi, my name is Lane Wedgworth. I’m a sophomore at SHHS, and I’m running for treasurer. I would like to be a student council officer because I like making a difference and it’s a great way to interact with new people.

I am a section leader in our band and help the rest of my section do their best. I always have a positive attitude and act as a team player when it comes to difficult situations.
