Alder Street home damaged: NTA emergency medical services deputy chief Corey Sloan looks over the second floor balcony while firemen extinguish a fire that caused damage to the second floor of the Patrick McGuire residence at 1704 Alder. The fire apparently started in a bag of trash left outside the front door of upper deck. Assistant Fire Chief David Kinnison said NTA personnel Steve Sanneman, Brandon Fordyce and Quinten Cox arrived on the scene first and used a fire extinguisher to control the fire inside the wall before the fire truck arrived. A pumper and ladder truck arrived at the scene and began shooting water on the fire. The damage was confined to the upper floor of the residence. Kinnison said the fire could have spread to the roof and caused more damage without the quick work of the NTA paramedics. No one was injured in the fire.
