Road hazard: A car approaches a line of chuckholes stretching across Bartlett Street where the route from 39th Street to the park has become almost impassable this winter. The city had filed a claim with FEMA to replace culverts on the street, but the agency denied providing additional funds to pay for a pair of culverts to carry water under the road or to widen the street. City Administrator Jonne Slemons said the city received $12,000 from FEMA to replace one of the culverts which was washed out in a flood a couple of years ago. The city Street Department will be repairing the street using its own equipment.
Traffic on Bartlett Street has increased since the opening of businesses on 39th Street. Vehicles often have to pull onto the muddy shoulder to allow oncoming traffic to pass.
