Preserving the walking bridge

Preserving the walking bridge: City of Bethany employees replace planks on the deck of the pedestrian bridge over Big Creek. The bridge had been closed in recent years because of the deteriorating condition of the floor. Pictured here are John Findley, Robert Russell, Charley Bennett and Bryan Jennings.

The foot bridge, which was established after the old 10th Street bridge was removed, serves the West Bethany Park. The City Council had considered tearing down the walking bridge altogether but decided to restore the structure after public sentiment favored saving the crossing. After the street department finishes the restoration, the city Park and Recreation Department will be responsible for the future maintenance of the bridge.
