Route through town: This old tourist map shows the route of the Jefferson Highway through Bethany. Among highlights on the map were the Woods Hospital, now the First Baptist Church; the Junior College; the post office; the fairgrounds and the CB&Q Railroad.
Rest stop on the Jefferson Highway: Weary travelers on the Jefferson Highway once stopped by the old Central Hotel, on West Main Street, to enjoy a night of rest after a long day driving the Palm to Pine Highway. The old hotel, which dates from the 1880s, is now the location of Heirloom Hotel Antiques. The old highway once passed by the front door of the hotel on its way to New Orleans.
