GILMAN CITY, MO: Joel Brett Wideman, 59, of Gilman City, MO passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Harrison County Community Hospital, Bethany, MO.

He was born on January 18, 1957 in Waterloo, IA the 4th child to Richard and Mary (Rudebeck) Wideman.

Joel was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church and Baptist the same day. He graduated from Grant City High School in 1975. After graduation he worked for Lamberts Cap Factory in Pattonsburg and MFA in Albany. Through the years he drove trucks for Nichols Stockyards, Dave Thomas, Eagle Ventures, and Lynter Trucking. Currently, he was employed with Smithfield Hog since 1994.

On April 18, 2003 he married Tori Riggs. She survives of the home.

Joel loved watching his daughter, Amanda, dance and cheerlead while growing up but enjoyed most watching her raise her family. He loved to spend time hunting and fishing with his son, Brett and enjoyed watching his family grow.

He was often found helping a family member or friend work on a vehicle, build a demo car or fix a mud truck. He most loved the time he spent with family.

Joel is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Wideman.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Tori Wideman, include daughter, Amanda Shepherd, Liberty, MO; son, Richard Brett Wideman (Emily) Stanberry, MO; grandchildren, Riley, Mya, and Joseph, Liberty, MO, Austin, Stanberry, MO; brothers, Alan, Sedalia, MO, Kevin (Diane) Russelville, MO, Michael (Julia) Grant City, MO, Leyton (Laura) Ravenwood, MO; sisters, Lisa (Dave) Shower, Springfield, MO, Lori (Dave) Shuck, Martinsville, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and 5 very special boys, Kyler, Landon, Mason, Teddy, and CJ.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 24 at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Lloyd Cemetery, Mt. Moriah, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
