MARTINSVILLE, MO: Boyd R. Baker, 89, passed away September 24, 2016 at his home.

Boyd was born April 12, 1927 on a farm in Washington Township in Harrison County, Missouri the son of Elmer Theodore and Clella Mildred (Cover) Baker.

Boyd attended grade school at Muddy Valley and graduated from Martinsville High School in May of 1945. He joined the United States Army in July of 1945 serving in World War II and was stationed for 10 ½ months in Korea. While in Korea, he was a barber. He was honorably discharged in January, 1947. After returning home, he worked one year for Dannon Mills Feed in St. Joseph, MO. Realizing city life was not for him, he returned to Martinsville and became a farmer with cow/calf operation, raising hogs, and producing row crops.

Boyd worked as a carpenter in the 60’s, building homes. He worked for Bunch and Sons in Albany, MO. One of the outstanding projects he participated in was the Triple B Motel.

On February 6, 1950 he married Marie Mavadene Stanton in the home of O.D. Hedges near New Hampton, MO. In 1957, they moved onto the farm where they enjoyed farming and raising their children. Boyd attended all his life and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was a member and Quartermaster of VFW Post #2176 for 30 years. He was also a member of American Legion Post #216. He had served over 800 families helping with final Military Rites for their loved ones. Boyd also held membership in the Wesley Chapel Church and Cemetery boards, Martinsville School Board and also served as a school bus driver, New Hampton Fire Board, Dallas Township Board Member serving as Trustee, MFA Exchange Delegate in Albany, MO, MFA Oil Board, Harrison County Health Department Board, and was a former North District Commissioner for Harrison County.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margie Butler, and brother, Theodore Junior Baker.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mavadene, of the home; 2 sons, Melvin (Cassandra) Baker, Martinsville, MO and Terry (Becky Creasey) Baker, Bethany, MO; 2 daughters, Sandra (Ken) Caley, New Hampton, MO and Barbara Baker, New Hampton, MO; grandchildren, Klaire (Kevin) Williams, Ian (Megan) Caley, Trevor, Hannah, and Kevin Baker, Emily and Wyatt Creasey; great-grandchildren, Lucien and Larson Hutchison and Charlotte and Caroline Caley; 1 brother, Eldon (Connie) Baker, Sunrise Beach, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial with Military Rites will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Martinsville, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 Tuesday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.
