Firemen were called to the scene at about 2:00 a.m. and spent until about 5:30 a.m. bringing the fire under control, according to Fire Chief Jacob Denum. The firemen were able to contain the fire to the eastern segment of the building but there was extensive smoke damage. Owner Jim Newman credited the fire department for responding quickly to the scene and preventing more extensive damage to the building. Denum said it appeared that the fire started in electrical equipment in the office area. The North Harrison and New Hampton fire departments also responded to the fire alarm.
