Muriel ZinnMuriel Lue McLain Zinn , 80, of Simpson, IL passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Baptist Health Paducah, Paducah, KY. She was born July 25, 1935 in Poweshiek County, Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin Leland McLain and Nina Irene Stone McLain. She graduated from Brooklyn High School, Brooklyn, Iowa, in 1953 and attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1957. The day following her graduation, June 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to Gene Marvin Zinn. To this union four children were born: Karl Gene, Kurt Ray, Sandra Lee and Eric Marvin.

Muriel was a life-long “behind-the-scenes” supporter of the family businesses, serving as office manager for the private veterinary practice and supervising the Christmas tree enterprise. At the age of 45, she returned to school and earned a Masters degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1983.

She had a special talent for playing piano and organ and shared this often with family and friends. Her early morning cheerfulness led to many one-sided conversations between Gene and family members. She enjoyed travelling and was able to share many specials trips with family members. She was especially excited about recently becoming a great-grandmother.
Muriel is survived by her husband Gene, brother Richard (Mary) McLain of Cheshire, Connecticut, sons Kurt (Amanda) of Mountain View, Alabama and Eric (Nina) of Zionsville, Indiana, and daughter Sandy (John) of Steedman, Missouri, grandchildren Brett Zinn, Sarah Zinn, Jason Zinn, Mariah (Scott) Hollabaugh, Megan Brandt, Will Brandt and McLain Zinn, and great-grandson Sawyer Hollabaugh.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 30, from 5:00-7:00pm at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville. Funeral services will be at Glendale United Methodist Church at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 31. Interment will be at Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, Missouri at a later date. Visit alyfh.com to leave an online condolence.
