Freshman award: South Harrison graduate Dylan Heitz takes a swing while competing for the School of the Ozarks this season. Heitz received honors as the freshman of the year in the Association of Independent Institutionsā€™ baseball conference.

Dylan Heitz, who plays baseball for the College of the Ozarks Bobcats, was named freshman of the year at the Association of Independent Institutionsā€™ conference baseball banquet in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Dylan, who is the son of Jeff and Sandy Heitz of Bethany, was the designated hitter for the College of Ozarks team. He batted .333 and had a slugging percentage of .587 during his freshman year. He led the team in triples (7), home runs (6) and RBI (39).

Heitz also was recognized as versatile fielder spending time at catcher and first base. He also received first team all-conference honors at the designated pitcher position.

The Bobcats closed out their season last week with a 1-0 loss to Texas A&M-Texarkana at the AIC tournament in Lawrenceville. The Bobcats finished the season with a 31-24 record, their best since 2005.

Heitz enrolled at the College of the Ozarks after earning numerous awards as a quarterback at South Harrison.
