South Harrison continues dominance in running events

South Harrison’s sprinters and distance runners continued piling up victories when they helped their team win the Travis Girratono Memorial track meet Saturday at Albany.

South Harrison’s Stanton Blake and Bryce Kirk finished a tenth of a second apart in taking the top two places in the 100-meter dash. Blake was first at 12.12 seconds and Kirk came in second at 12.13.

South Harrison finished first overall with 141 points, followed by Hardin-Central with 129.5, Stanberry 84, Mid-Buchanan 73. Ten teams were entered in the tournament.

South Harrison hopes to continue on the winning track when it hosts the 13-team Bulldog invitational on Thursday, April 29, at Memorial Stadium.

South Harrison’s 4x100m, 4x200m and 4x800m relays all took first place at Albany.

Blake, J. D. Johnson, Kinser Corbett and Kirk are members of both the 4×100 and 4×200 teams. Creek Findley, Derek McClure, Austin Ward and Chris Spence are on the 4×800 team.

The 4×100 team won the event in 45.84 seconds, nearly a second over King City. The 4×200 team finished in 1:35.90, beating Albany (1:36.29), and the 4×800 team won first with a time of 9:04.54, seven seconds ahead of Stanberry.

200m dash, Blake, second, Colton Davidson, third.

400m dash, Davidson, second.

800m run, Spence, second.

1600m run, Derek McClure, third.

Pole vault, Trevor Baker, second, and Cody Weller, fourth.

Long jump—Kirk, third.

Shot put—Kasey McFall, third.

Discus—Wyatt Starmer, second; McFall, fourth.

Bennett wins girls’ pole vault

South Harrison’s Kiana Bennett continued her string of wins in the pole vaults in taking first place in the event clearing the bar at 8 feet, 6 inches. She also took second in the 100m hurdles in a time of 17.93.

Neiley Karns was third in the discus. Summer Beaty won fourth in the 100m dash; Keagan Madison was fourth in the shot put. Ashton Farmer was fifth in the triple jump. Elizabeth Whitney was sixth in the pole vault.

Hailey Burrows of Gilman City finished third in the 200m dash.
