Georgia Jane Corbin, 71, a Bethany, Mo., resident, passed away Friday, January 1, 2016 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

Georgia Jane Corbin was born April 2, 1944 in Newtown, Mo., to Joseph Otto Shilt and Hildred Tipton Shilt. She graduated from Newtown High School in 1962 and attended community college in Kansas City, Mo. In 1965, she married Richard Slagle and moved to a farm in Ottumwa, Iowa, and raised two children. In 1975 she divorced and moved to Trenton, Mo., where she worked as a legal secretary for the prosecuting attorney until retirement. In 1988 she married Donald Corbin and moved to Bethany, Mo.

Georgia’s greatest joy was family and friends. She loved watching her grandchildren’s many activities. She was involved in church and was a member of Eastern Star, Red Hat Society and Boots and Bells. She loved traveling, going to concerts, square dancing, playing games and cards.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Don, of the home; her son, Troy Slagle and his wife, Stacia of Savannah, Mo.; two-step daughters, Cheryl Claybrook of North Kansas City, Mo., and Carrie Cavender of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren, Torria, Camarie, Ian and Kavan Slagle of Savannah, Mo., Kyle Hoyt of Maryville, Mo., James Deaver of Trenton, Mo.; two step grandchildren, Madisen Cavender of Springfield, Mo., Schyler Cavender of Platte City, Mo.; four brothers, Ron and Marietta Shilt, John and Sandy Shilt all of Liberty, Mo., Joe and Sharon Shilt of Chillicothe, Mo., Jack and Linda Shilt of Kearney, Mo.; an uncle, Howard Shilt of Peculiar, Mo.; several cousins and a host of friends.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Retta Jo Deaver; grandparents, Aubrey and Sarah Shilt and James (Elmer) and Georgia Tipton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7th, from 6-8 p.m. at the Highway Christian Church, 35121 Hwy. 13, Bethany, Mo. Service will be held on Friday, January 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Highway Christian Church.

The family suggests memorials to the Scleroderma Foundation or Highway Christian Church in lieu of flowers. Memorials may be mailed to 1103 S. Aspen, Savannah, MO 64485.
