The South Harrison and North Harrison marching bands won the top awards in their prospective categories during the Missouri Day Festival Saturday at Trenton.

“It was a great day for all Harrison County bands!” declared South Harrison director Ted Keck.

Some 40 bands from across Missouri took part in the festival.

The North Harrison drumline took first in Class 1, and the South Harrison drumline took first in Class 2.

North Harrison also took first in field competitions with captions in best music, best marching and best general effect. The band also garnered a second place award in indoor color guard and third place in the parade. This is the second year for the Shamrocks to compete in field events.

The North Harrison band won first place in the field events at the Missouri Western Tournament of Champions on Oct. 13 and first in the drumline at the Carrollton Band Day on Sept. 26.

Elizabeth Betts is director of the North Harrison band.

The South Harrison drumline—with 44 members, by far the largest in the competitions—took first place for the third year in a row.

The Marching Bulldogs received first place on the field and took the award for the best musical performance on the field and the best field color guard.

South Harrison prepared for the Missouri Day competitions with a Night of Music show Thursday night at the high school. The concert was preceded by a benefit taco supper sponsored by the Band Boosters.

Keck said the band will do an encore performance of the field show during Friday night’s South Harrison-Braymer playoff game.
