The South Harrison junior high team opened its season Thursday night with a pair of wins over Cameron.

The Bullpup B team defeated the Dragons 14-6. After falling behind early, Justice Cook returned the kickoff 74 yards for a touchdown and then ran the ball in for a two-point conversion to give his team an 8-6 lead.

The defense stiffened after the Bullpups took the lead.

“We seemed to make big plays when we needed them the most,” said Coach Jason Slaughter.

Braden Sunderman added to the lead with a 10-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

The South Harrison A team defeated Cameron 14-8 in a game that was called in the third quarter due to lightning.

Bullpup quarterback Collin Haffey kept the ball on an option and ran 64 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. Cameron came back on a lengthy drive at the end of the second quarter to take an 8-6 lead. But Haffey scored again on a 67-yard run with six seconds left in the half. The quarterback then hit Nick Williams on a pass for the two-point conversion.

South Harrison’s B team played Tuesday night in Maysville. The A team will play at home Thursday night against Polo. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m.
