Burl RiceBurl Gene Rice, 93, Bethany, MO passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Bethany Care Center, Bethany, MO.

He was born, April 14, 1922 in Harrison County, MO the son of Aubrey and Osta (Salmon) Rice. Burl spent his childhood in the McFall and Matkins community and graduated in 1939 from Bethany High School.

On September 8, 1940, he married EughVaughn Vance in McFall, MO. She preceded him in death after 73 years of marriage on April 8, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, J. D.

Burl was in the car business for over 30 years retiring in 1984 as a salesman for Pettijohn Auto Center in Bethany, MO. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He was also a member of the York Rite Masons, Eastern Star and the Moila Shrine.

Burl lived on a farm southwest of Bethany before entering the Bethany Care Center this year. He loved cars, traveling, golfing and dancing and most of all his family.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat (Dick) Teel and son, Ed Rice, both of Bethany, MO; grandchildren, Richard (Lisa) Teel, Lincoln, NE, Trish (Mike) Hansen, O’Fallon, MO, Natalie (Chuck) Hogan, Topeka, KS and Angela (Mike) Slayden, Beaumont, TX; 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO. Burial will follow in Miriam Cemetery, Bethany, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where friends may call after NOON Wednesday.
